Good To Be Back
When ever you go out of town, the best thing may some times be getting back home. Holy smokes, I'm so freaking happy that I cleaned and straightened before I left, because when I opened the door, it put a...

Sucking Life from the Goal : THE AMEX BLACK HOLE
Have you ever taught two ornery Upper East side post-collegiate Wasps the foxtrot at 7.30 in the morning? What we do to pursue the craft we love. I haven't woken up at 6:30 (...then 6:45... then 6:53) for a few...

MAKEUP!! O, whateveR.
Well today's shoot went surprisingly okay. I guess I was prepared for mayhem given that I got my call less than 1o hours before I was expected to be there. The bastard apologized about 20,000 times, but I didn't accept...

Your Mom
Thank you Lord, I finally snagged a legitimate theatrical audition! Apparently bugging your agent and manager more often does work. Yesterday I had an audition for a co-star role on How I Met Your Mother. No, it wasn't the one...

New York, New Night
Another seminar last night - this time with an agent that does everything but commercials. She was hilarious and cool and laid back and, when I spoke with her one-on-one, remarkably quiet. But it was an active quietness. Listening. Feeling...

DGA Speaks Up About New Media
Dave McNary reports in today's Variety that the DGA--a union that generally likes to fly below the radar--is touting its very own new-media deal, the one negotiators forged with producers in January and established a template that other unions have since followed--namely, the WGA and AFTRA. As you might have heard, SAG is not ready to squeeze itself into that template just yet, and wants union jurisdiction in all new-media projects made by any member of the AMPTP. But DGA president Michael Apted, in the guild's monthly magazine, wrote a letter that seems to rebuke SAG's recalcitrance. SAG's Doug Allen...

'Mamma Mia!' Sing-Alongs, Coming to a Theatre Near You!
Variety's Anne Thompson reports in her "Thompson on Hollywood" blog that Universal will release a special sing-along edition of Mamma Mia! in select theatres, for a limited run starting Aug. 29. Mamma Mia! The Sing-Along Edition will feature on-screen subtitles of the lyrics for all the musical numbers in the film, encouraging audience members to sing along. The call for audience participation is apparently an attempt to pump up the movie's Labor Day weekend box office. Mamma Mia! has grossed more than $320 million worldwide, and is the fastest musical to reach $100 million in the U.S. (So far, it's...

Robert Downey Jr.'s next Oscar turn?
Ed Norton for best actor! He was tortured -- tortured! -- as a human science experiment gone wrong who was looking for inner peace but found only his giant Gumby-colored alter ego and William Hurt and Tim Roth overacting their...

'Mamma Mia,' karaoke style
Aside from hauling it to the gas station to properly inflate our tires (it's our civic duty, after all), we can't think of anything we'd rather be doing than hitting a sing-along to "Mamma Mia!" Jackpot! Not that it could...

Chandra Wilson still feels like Cinderella
Chandra Wilson has been known to dig into her musical theater background and serenade her cast mates with some strains of "Amazing Grace." Get it? (Her show's set at fictional hospital Seattle Grace). Does that mean she's up for an...

Lauren Conrad won't let Emmy go naked
Someone who understands such things -- that is, consistently readable fashion and style writer Monica Corcoran -- says that Lauren Conrad's dresses are "cute and airy, like meringue." In other words, fluffy and hollow. Nothing special. So, Corcoran wonders in...

The lonely American Teen
Smart-house heaven, it ain't. Speaking here of our neighborhood AMC theaters, a whopping 30 screens all within a stone's throw of each other in beautiful downtown Burbank. They're not so generous with the "AMC Select" at this time of year....
